HSE Responds to SpongeBob Squarepants Christmas Lights Ban
Posted on December 4, 2012
Wolverhampton City Council have been labelled as scrooges, after not allowing an actor in a Spongebob Squarepants costume to switch on the Christmas lights, claiming it was not possible due to health and safety rules.
The council’s decision not to allow the character on to the stage, because he was too wide to climb up the 5 steps to reach it, left many disappointed. Thousands had gathered to see the lights being switched on, including many small children, and the council had reportedly spent £2000 on hiring the costume for the occasion.
Needless to say the Health and Safety Executive were not pleased with events.
