Changes to the health and safety policy arrangements
Posted on April 17, 2015
You will have noted from our recent safety bulletins that the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 came into force on 6 April this year.
If you are involved with construction in any way, or if your health and safety policy contains arrangements for CDM (Principal Contractor), CDM (Sub Contractor), CDM (Designer) or CDM (Co-ordinator) we would ask you to remove the old policy arrangements and insert the new arrangements, which you can download by clicking the appropriate link below.
If you are a company who is involved in small construction projects where a sub-contractor is used (e.g. to put scaffolding up or excavate) you will need to include the new arrangement for CDM (Principal Contractor) as the past requirement of notification has changed and the company will become a Principal Contractor under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
The old CDM Co-ordinator requirement has been removed and some companies will need to add CDM (Principal Designer) when there is more than one contractor as there must be a Principal Designer. This may mean companies who take on small projects (even domestic) may become a Principal Designer so may require adding CDM (Principal Designer) to their policy arrangement.
We are holding half-day CDM 2015 Awareness training sessions on 23 April and 13 May, which are free for our Members to attend. Please contact us to discuss booking places or download a booking form, complete it and email to [email protected].
If you have any questions about the policy changes, please feel free to contact us.
