Fee for Intervention – what you need to know . . .
Posted on October 1, 2012
Fee for Intervention is a new charge introduced by the HSE on 1 October 2012. An FFI will be charged in any situation where; during a routine inspection, a material breach is found and the HSE have to spend time with your company to correct the breach. The fee for such intervention is clarified at £124 per hour.
Examples of material breaches include: not providing guards or effective safety devices to prevent access to dangerous parts of machinery; or materials containing asbestos in a poor or damaged condition resulting in the potential to release asbestos fibres – anything serious enough for the HSE to want to notify you in writing – be it in the form of a ‘Notice of Contravention’, ‘Improvement Notice’, ‘Prohibition Notice’ or a prosecution.
The reason for the implementation of this charge is to discourage businesses who try to cut costs by neglecting their health and safety duties, thereby putting people’s lives at risk. As Members of Courtley (Health & Safety) Ltd you have already demonstrated a desire to comply with health and safety laws and raise standards; so providing you utilize the knowledge and expertise available to you, you should not have anything to worry about.
