Standards for safety footwear
Posted on January 14, 2015
EN ISO 20344:2011 and EN ISO 20345:2011 are the latest in a long line of revisions to the standards for safety footwear. The latest revisions include new test methods on anti-puncture mid soles for both steel and composite materials, and requires manufacturers to have the products certified to the standards.
As an employer, what do I need to do?
Request the products they are purchasing have been certified to the new standard.
If operatives are using old standard footwear a risk assessment should be carried out to identify if there is an issue of potential penetration through the sole in the workplace.
